What is HLA-B27?
HLA-B27 is an antigen produced by a chromosome in the body that has a strong correlation with inflammatory diseases such as
ankylosing spondylitis and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
What are Symptoms of HLA-B27?
The presence of the genetic variant (i.e. HLA-B27 positive) causes symptoms in some people.
Symptoms, when present, tend to be chronic, reactive arthritis with pain, inflammation, and stiffening of
major joints.
How is HLA-B27 diagnosed?
HLA-B27 can be diagnosed via a genetic test. If positive, this tests suggests a genetic association and potentially
cause for the underlying autoimmune disease.
